There is a rich history of Jewish life in Canterbury, and in recent years there was a vibrant independent Jewish community, however with the passage of time this has dwindled away.
Nowadays although Jewish life is focused towards the Thanet synagogues, the Canterbury and District Jewish Community do hold two or three social events annually and welcomes new members.
The Jewish cemetery is no longer in use but has been renovated and is now maintained by Canterbury City Council. To visit the cemetery contact Cedric Rebuck. The Old Synagogue has closed;
nowadays it is used as the music room for The Kings School but the Jewish Community is allowed to use it.
