Although like many small communities the Margate community is not what it was 40 years ago, when there were many youngsters and a thriving Cheder as well as 7 Jewish hotels and numerous guesthouses in the popular seaside town , the synagogue has sadly closed. The community remains in operation , and plans are to relocate to smaller premises that reflect the needs of the community.
Although Margate Hebrew Congregation is totally independent, it has always been the practice of the synagogue to accepts as members only those who are prepared to acknowledge the
authority of the Chief Rabbi of the United Synagogue.
Following the death of long time minister Rev. Landau, the community like so many others does not have its own minister but its services are conducted by lay members.
